Western Region DECA is announcing our first ever Social Media Internship program at WRLC in San Diego! Our goal is to help the world GET DECA through social media channels.
The top 7-10 members attending WRLC who sign up by clicking this link will get an all access pass to WRLC! This opportunity is for the motivated member who wants to be part of a select experience at WRLC.
You’ll be interning and working in real time with public relations experts who have advised communications and media strategies for organizations ranging from the White House to large non-profits to Fortune 500 corporations. You’ll learn how to really do social media through reporting of all the happenings of WRLC!
Mastering social media is a key skill set demanded by today’s public relations, branding, and marketing powerhouses. Through this internship you’ll learn how to become a hot commodity at marketing and branding agencies across the nation through effective use of social media messages and social media metrics. Inspiring speakers, informative breakout sessions, engaging DECA Industry Panels, and the exciting DECA University training program will make this year’s WRLC one to remember. Also included this year is a series of Advisor Professional Development opportunities that will help advisors power up their program to excel. Leadership Opportunities Packet
Tours & Excursions
Friday evening all chapters will have the chance to explore San Diego. Visit the tours page to find information for various tours and excursions around the city available to all participants. Chapter advisors will be responsible for planning and coordinating their chapter's activities for the evening. You will receive your tour & excursion tickets separately from the chapter packets received on site. In addition to tours & excursions, chapters can purchase a day pass for the transit system that will allow unlimited trips on MTS trolleys and most busses. If you do not wish to purchase an optional package you may make your own plans for Friday evening.
Help Support the Make-a-Wish Foundation
During the opening session all participants will be encouraged to take out their cell phones and text GoMad WR to 50555. When this happens, you will make a $5 donation to benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Our goal: Grant a wish to a local child with a life-threatening condition. View the flyer to learn more..

This November DECA makes its way to one of the signature Sports and Entertainment areas of the world as members experience these exciting industries like never before. The L.A. Experience will help members not only GET DECA!, but also GET SPORTS and GET ENTERTAINMENT as attendees hear first-hand from industry leaders, tour world-class venues, and experience the thrill of Los Angeles, California!
The L.A. Experience is being held in conjunction with the Western Region Leadership Conference. This optional add-on event will take place on Thursday, November 10 in the entertainment center of Los Angeles; L.A. LIVE. After the L.A. Experience concludes Thursday night participants will join the rest of the Western Region Leadership Conference attendees in San Diego for the final two days of WRLC 2011.

WRLC 2011 Keynote Speakers
 Bill Cordes
Opening General Session
Bill D. Cordes is a speaker, consultant and author. He has keynoted programs for conventions, conferences, schools and universities nationwide. His programs have been featured in 47 states, to well over 2 million participants.
Bill is the author of The YOGOWYPI Factor, and has co-authored Teen Power Too, Teen Empower, Teen Power through Christ, Teen Power and Beyond and Lead Now or Step Aside.
Bill did his graduate and undergraduate work at the University of Hawaii and Fort Hays State University. He was awarded Graduate Student Teacher of the Year by the International Communication Association while attending Fort Hays State University.
Bill is a committed Christian, husband and father. In his programs, Bill combines humor, enthusiasm and draws on his extensive life experience from being a former school teacher, college instructor, coach and television talk show host.
 Phil Boyte
Closing General Session
Phil Boyte started talking to audiences in 1983 and has traveled the continent sharing his message in 45 states and all over Canada. Phil received his secondary teaching credential from Cal State University, Chico, and following student teaching in History, English, and Student Leadership, he began his career as a professional speaker. First talking to students, and then making the transition to training teachers and working at staff development days.
It is the passion Phil has for living and impacting others that makes his presentations so enjoyable. He is able to blend humor, stories, and current events to bring the audience on stage with him as he shares his message. His real life application stirs people because the message is relevant to their life.
